Known locally as “Vance Park”, this diverse facility is located @ 4124 MS Hwy. 24 West, approximately 1 mile west of Liberty. Owned by the State, but managed by the Town of Liberty, the park consists of 288 acres with 1 mile frontage on the West Fork of the Amite River. The anchor of the park is a 70,000 square foot multi-purpose equestrian facility, featuring a 40,000 square foot lighted arena with bleacher seating for approximately 1,000, an air-conditioned conference room with seating for approximately 100, commercial kitchen/concession area, and restrooms with showers. Adjacent to this building is the “Air Cruisers Sports Complex”, built in 2005, and named for Air Cruisers, a local industry, and substantial financial contributor of Vance Park. The complex consist of 4 very well maintained fenced softball fields, 2 of which are lighted. The park also has 34 rv/camper hook-ups, primitive camping areas, a 13 mile hiking/bike trail, a beaver pond, unique sandstone outcroppings, and beautiful mature mixed hardwood stands. Functions held at the park include rodeos, bull bashes, roping & team pennings, horse shows, car shows, tractor-pulls, county fair, area forestry events, family re-unions, Boy Scout & Girl Scout outings, Amite County Heritage Days, Jakes Day (sponsored by the National Wild Turkey Federation), concerts, annual Air Cruisers picnic, and numerous charity/fund raiser events.
