With Amite County being only 90 miles from New Orleans, Jackson & Hattiesburg, and 60 miles from Natchez and Baton Rouge, there are endless opportunities for enjoyable day trips and other outings:

  • New Orleans-see a Saints or Hornets game, or visit to the French Quarter
  • Jackson-visit the Old Capital Museum or see a Mississippi Braves game
  • Hattiesburg-see a game @ USM
  • Natchez-tour any of the many historic places
  • Baton Rouge-watch the LSU Tigers play Alabama in “Death Valley”

Lake Natchez State Park-Located off U.S. Hwy. 61, 8 miles north of Natchez, this 550 acre lake offers water sports, picnic areas and camping facilities. The Mississippi record for large mouth bass was caught here.

Natchez National Historic Park-Celebrates the history of Natchez, Mississippi and interprets the pivotal role the city played in the settlement of the old southwest, the Cotton Kingdom and the Antebellum South.

Natchez Trace Parkway/National Scenic Trail-This historic route generally follows the old Indian trace, or trail, between Nashville, TN and Natchez, MS. Of the estimated 443 miles, 423 are completed.

St. Catherine Creek Wildlife Management Area.

Terrapin Run Motocross, located 10 miles north of Liberty, features a 1.1 mile long motocross track, with R/V camp sites coming soon. The track is open on Saturdays from 10 AM until dark, and on Sundays from noon until dark. Cost is $ 15.00 per bike per day for practice. Directions: From I-55 in McComb, take exit 18 and head west along Smithdale Rd.; after crossing into Amite County, take a left on Thompson Rd. and follow the MX signs.  From Liberty, turn north off of MS Hwy. 24 (Main St.) @ Bargain Furniture onto the Meadville Rd. & continue 10 miles to Brookside Grocery; turn right onto Rollinson Rd., track is ¼ mile on right.
