Hunting & Fishing
With 725 square miles of land in Amite County, most of which is wooded, and a number of rivers and creeks, there are excellent hunting and fishing opportunities available for the avid outdoorsman here. Deer, turkey, wild hog, squirrel and rabbit, to name a few, are plentiful. Many hunting camps help to provide a safe, organized and enjoyable hunt for those who wish to participate. In addition to the private lands available to hunt, the 189,000 acre Homochitto National Forest is also partially located in Amite County. The streams that cross the county include, the Amite, Homochitto, Tickfaw, Tangipahoa Rivers, and Brushy, Red Prong and Beaver Creeks.
